A depleted squad turned up for the Clevedon tournament with bare numbers. Our wafer thin squad of players in the Over 60s age group means that a couple of absences leave us really exposed, so with only 6 players for 5 fixtures we lined up with a bit of trepidation.

Congratulations to Ian Rhodes on his first tournament for the club, he did great in the centre of midfield.

It’s not like turning up without a sub when you are in your teens, our bones are as fragile as biscuits and our hamstrings tighter than guitar strings, but when the Posset boys turn up, we really turn up and give it our best in every game, this is how we got on.

Squad for today

  • Steve Parslow – mainly in goal
  • Chris Mountford
  • Ian Rhodes
  • Jon Cusiter
  • Rod Sowden
  • Colin Barnes

Portishead 0 0 Exeter – they’ve edged us out in previous tournaments by the odd goal so it was a good result. Rod had the best chance in the opening minute through on goal and missed the target but all over the pitch the team was clicking nicely and we should have won.

Portishead 0 0 Keynsham – well I guess we knew that one was coming. We’ve now played them 9 times since Christmas and there has only been 2 goals in all the games. They are such a good side but our boys gave as good as they get,

Portishead 0 1 Clevedon – adisappointing game where we played so well but one excellent move by Clevedon was enough to lose the derby, but heads held high and don’t ask Chris about the non pass from Colin in the dying seconds.

Portishead 2 1 Abbymead – a great comeback. Abbymead opened with a deluge of passes that ripped us apart, our only touch was to give away a corner, and Abbymead did the same corner move they used at their place 3 weeks ago and we were 1 – 0 dowb without having a kick. It didn’t look good but fantastic team spirit from Posset as always, Rod S nudged a defender into his own box to give away a penalty, which he duly dispatched to equalise. Just before half time Chris M put a ball through for Rod S to chase and slotted it based the keeper, Abbymead weren’t happy and a blank second half left us with our first win.

0 0 Weston in the final game, they had been the stand out team but the Posset boys gave them a good battle and stood toe to toe all over the pitch and had the chances to win, but by now we were all knackered and glad to keep another clean sheet.

And the Posset go marching on on on
