The Portishead Town Walking Football squad headed down the road for the Clevedon Town O60s tournament today . This is one of the most prestigious in the region and had all the best sides there.
It was a tough assignment with players out injured and others carrying injuries, but they all did their duty for the town and came back unbeaten and nicely positioned, as there are still 2 rounds to go.
Results
- Portishead 0 0 Keynsham – very tight game against a very strong club, and both sides happy with the result. In the last 8 games we’ve managed to keep 8 clean sheets against them.
- Portishead 0 0 Weston – always tough game, we had the chances but couldn’t finish them off.
- Portishead 1 0 Cardiff City First time we’ve played them, very tight match decided by a John McSweeney blinder, he also went on to miss a penalty so it’s tough being a hero
- Portishead 2 1 Taunton Town – in a dramatic opening 60 seconds, we conceded a goal, their scorer went on to put a horrendous tackle on Rod Sowden, only for him to fall over and break his arm ! John McSweeney got us back on level terms in the second half and Pete Rogers scored the winner in the dying seconds.
- Portishead 1 0 Clevedon at the end of a very hot morning we came up against Clevedon yellows in the last game, and even though it was one way traffic for the whole game, the team never lost heart and Rod Sowden flicked in the winner in the last minute, a goal long overdue !
